Day 8 - A picture of the person you’re inspired by the most

Beverly Kills, #90210, Houston Roller Derby

Kills is a leaguemate and personal friend of mine who has always been there for me on my little trip through the derbyverse. I thought about posting a photo of some derby-famous skater or another, but I decided that while those incredibly talented girls are indeed inspiring, they don’t hold a candle to Kills. Kills is naturally talented, but she also realizes that only gets her so far. She works her ass off on a daily basis to get better, and I think what I find most inspiring about her is that she is human. She has bad days, makes mistakes and gets mental blocks. Seeing her work through these has made more of an impression on me than any apex jump, monster hit or agile juke I watch on DNN. 

When she jams it’s like a work of art - and one that’s REALLY hard to describe. Every move is a unique surprise. She’s one of the most resilient jammers I know of, taking huge hits and still getting back up and through that pack.

But aside from all that, when my motivation is gone or I feel like I can’t ever do anything right…I go to Kills and she always sorts it out for me. That’s what I consider a great friend and an inspiring mentor.

Saw her/Houston skate against the Chicago Outfit Saturday night- good stuff. I wish I had been able to see the WCR/Houston bout Sunday morning, but it was a closed bout.
